Adoration in Saint Peter’s Basilica

The Catholic Traveler’s Guide to Rome is offered completely free to be sure you have the best pilgrimage experience – and is only possible because of my generous supporters. Please consider supporting my work through Patreon or Substack, or a one time tip through Venmo. 🤍

Saint Peter’s Basilica is not a museum, but with thousands of visitors shuffling through each day, it can sometimes feel like it. Take a break and give thanks for being in such a beautiful place.

Adoration is in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, on the right side of the basilica. This area is roped off, and behind a curtain. Don’t be shy, and let the attendant know you are there for prayer. It sometimes gets crowded, and you may need to wait for others to exit. Be patient.

During the Jubilee, the prayer entrance is not being used. To get into the basilica for prayer/Mass/Confessions, simply use the line for the Holy Doors, which is right at the front/middle of the piazza. You can even make a reservation on the Official Jubilee website/app.

Hours of Adoration

Monday – Saturday
Following the 8:45 a.m. Mass, and until Benediction at 4:45 p.m.

Perhaps after a time of reflection, you’d like to make a confession. Reconciliation is available in Saint Peter’s Basilica as well.
