Trattoria Polese

My family is at Polese, literally, several times a week. This is like our second dining room.

We visit almost always on Sunday after English Mass and throughout the week when we don’t want to cook. I also bring many of my day tours here. It’s not uncommon for me to have both lunch and dinner here a few times a week.

This is our go-to spot for pizza. They are also well known for their pasta dishes. The cacio e pepe here is my favorite in Rome, but I recommend the traditional version, which is not on the menu, just ask for it. Everything I’ve had here has been excellent. My oldest daughter tries something new on the menu almost weekly, and has never been disappointed. For dessert, definitely try the semi-freddo. This is my favorite dessert in all of Rome.

This is also an excellent spot for lunch after the Papal Angelus on Sunday. It’s only a 10 – 20 minute walk from Saint Peter’s Square.

They have a lovely covered outdoor seating area, plus several indoor dining rooms.

Polese is run by the brothers, Paolo and Lorenzo Polese. Tell them I said hi. I’ll probably be here anyway.
