We’ll celebrate Mass here. Our hotel for the next three nights is Hotel Umbra, just off the main square, Piazza del Comune. Once we settle into our hotel we’ll get oriented with the area before our traditional Umbrian dinner outdoors (weather permitting).

Then we’ll visit the burial place of Saint Paul, the ancient basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls. We’ll celebrate Mass here. Then we’ll head to Hotel Alimandi, located just steps away from the Vatican. After a few hours for lunch and rest, we’ll head back out for an evening tour of Rome. You must be able to carry your own luggage. You are responsible for your luggage and buses are not always able to pull right up to our hotels. Keep this in mind when trying to decide how many pairs of shoes to bring!
You should be in good physical shape. We will do a lot of walking, much of it outside. Our evening walk through Rome will cover just under two miles at a comfortable pace. Our tour of the Vatican Museums will cover approximately two miles at a very slow pace, with few opportunities to sit. Assisi is ridiculously hilly and it sometimes seems as though you are going uphill both ways!
You must be flexible! This is Italy, things may close without notice, a protest could spring up without warning. But, it’s not all negative, great things come up unexpectedly as well. Being flexible is the key for happy travels!
