My flight over was just surprisingly smooth. I slept for about two hours and watched The Proposal and The Hangover. By the way, I love that Delta now uses the 767-400 ATL – Rome!
We arrived in Rome almost an hour ahead of schedule!
With my ZÜCA carry on, and nothing else, I was able to make it from plane to train in 10 minutes. Surely a record!
Because I was so early, I was able to take the earlier train to Florence. I had to sprint through Termini to make it, but I jumped on as the doors were closing.
This train was also early which meant I could make the earlier connection to Siena. Again, I had to sprint.
I arrived in Siena three hours ahead of schedule!
Could not have asked for a more beautiful day:

I had dinner on il Campo:

Then dessert:

I was asleep early and up early. Then it was off to Florence to pick up the group. I had a quick lunch at my favorite place in Florence, Verranzzano. Then the skies opened up. I was soaked by the time I got to the bus station. Oh well.
The flight was delayed one hour because of this:

The two flights after they landed were diverted to Bologna! Even after they landed, it took over an hour to unload the luggage. The crew refused to work in the rain. Welcome to Italy!
We missed our scheduled train (there’s one an hour) so we had to take the next. We got to the station at 3:07, the train was scheduled to leave at 3:10, I told them where to go and ran to the train. I somehow convinced the conductor to wait. Awesome.
The rain stopped en route to Siena and we once again had beautiful blue skies. A lovely dinner and a group full of local wine and it was time for bed.
