Confession in Saint Peter’s Basilica

It is possible to go to confession in Saint Peter’s Basilica. Reconciliation is available in many languages, including English.

You should sign up for one of my day tours of Catholic Rome.

The area reserved for reconciliation is just to the right of the baldacchino – the large bronze canopy over the main altar. It is blocked off and private. You’ll need to let the attendant know you are there for confession.

Confessions

You may also wish to spend time in adoration before or after your confession. Saint Peter’s has a chapel for adoration that as well.

Mass is also celebrated here throughout the day.

Hours of confession

Daily
7 AM – 12:30 PM and 4 PM – 7 PM

Sundays and Holy Days
7 AM – 1 PM and 4 PM – 7 PM

I suggest you arrive early to avoid the long security line getting into the basilica.
