Tuesday, May 13, 2008
We’ll arrive in Rome this morning and head straight to our hotel. This afternoon we'll experience early Christian Rome with a visit to the San Callisto Catacombs. Our guide will lead us deep underground to where so many early Christians, including six popes and Saint Cecilia, were laid to rest. Then we'll visit Saint Paul's burial place, Saint Paul Outside the Walls. We’ll celebrate our first Mass together in this ancient basilica.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008
This morning we’ll attend the weekly Papal Audience in St. Peter’s Square (Pope’s schedule permitting). After the audience we’ll drive to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. Here we’ll celebrate Mass and visit the relics of the Nativity. We’ll continue over to San Pietro in Vincoli to view the chains that once held Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Then we’ll head over to the Pantheon and visit several nearby churches, including the Gesu, Sant’Ignazio, Santa Maria sopra Minerva and San Luigi. We’ll end at Piazza Navona.

Thursday, May 15, 2008
We’ll start with an early morning tour of the Vatican Museums. Here we’ll see masterpieces from Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli, Leonardo, and more. We’ll spend some prayerful time in the Sistine Chapel before crossing over into Saint Peter’s Basilica.

Friday, May 16, 2008
Today we’ll reflect on the Passion of our Lord. We’ll begin at Santa Croce in Gerusalemme which holds relics of the Passion, including two thorns from the crown of thorns, a nail from the crucifixion, a portion of the Titulus, and splinters from the cross. Next we’ll walk to Santa Scala, the stairs Christ climbed the day he was sentenced to death. You’ll have the opportunity to climb the stairs on your knees. From here we’ll visit the Saint John Lateran where we’ll celebrate Mass.

Saturday, May 17, 2008
Today we’ll dig in to Ancient Rome with tours of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Capital Hill. We’ll also visit Mamertine Prison, which once held Saints Peter and Paul. You’ll have the remainder of the day free to explore Rome on your own.

Sunday, May 18, 2008
We’ll celebrate Mass at Saint Peter’s Basilica before leaving the Eternal City. Then we’ll board our train and watch Tuscany and Umbria speed past our windows as we journey north to Venice. Today we’ll see the Rialto bridge and visit Saint Mark’s Square.

Monday, May 19, 2008
This morning we’ll celebrate Mass at Saint Mark’s Basilica. Next we’ll tour the Doge’s Palace. This palace was home to the most powerful governing body in all of Europe for 400 years. This evening you’re free to get joyfully lost among the labyrinth of canals. If you enjoy classical music, you may want to experience Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in the city in was written. Many churches offer evening concerts.

We’ll begin our day early with Mass at the Frari. After Mass we’ll tour Venice’s top art museum, the Accademia. You’ll have the remainder of the day free to explore Venice.
